Introduced by Mr B. Haggo, Dawn Nurseries, Auckland.

Parentage:

This cultivar may be a form of Phormium tenax but this cannot be confirmed as flowering material has not been seen.

Published descriptions

HEE

 "an erect plant 1.5 m or so tall. The bronze leaves are striped with red and deep pink".

SMG

 This large upright growing flax can reach 6-7 feet with a 1 1/2" wide bronze-maroon leaves that have deep scarlet margins. This recent introduction from New Zealand is only available in limited quantities. Stable.

MON

 Deep red leaves with bronzy stripes. One of the best red varieties, but very slow to divide.

HOR

 ‘Guardsman’ (‘Red Guardian’) is similar to ‘Sundowner’ but with leaves that are a bit more slender and more deeply colored.
